Although, these used engines are well tested prior delivery and have a warranty of a half year to a year, they still are risky. The engine block repair

Fortunately, our repairs of external damages on engine block are reasonably priced since it is a substantial repair and involves advanced welding technology. We repair most of these relatively simple damages by welding. Most often, we use our portable welding machines due to their extremely short reaction time. In order to start welding, we must plug our portable welding machines to the mechanical shop’s receptacle for their better performance. We use Tig or Stick welding techniques with very sophisticated alloys to weld repair damages on steel or on aluminum engine block. Moreover, we classify welds on cast steel and cast aluminum as difficult welds. Many of these engine blocks have multilayered wall structure that additionally complicate the welding process. That is why it takes us a while to plug the damaged holes and weld repair of the damaged seats. The most difficult however, are multi-layer welding rebuilds performed on very thin cast extensions that are used to hold the attachments. Repairs of these extensions cost the most.

The weld repairs on engine block are difficult, time consuming, and risky

The accident car or semi-truck owner must be aware that these welding repairs are:
  1. difficult,
  2. time consuming, and
  3. risky.
The technological difficulty is based on matching our alloy filler to the alloy of the cast. These welding repairs are time consuming since the welding procedure takes to the account cooling periods between welding passes. These cooling periods are necessary to avoid metal cracks. Furthermore,  we can not use warm method of cast welding for cracked engine blocks since it involves putting the element to stove. Simply put, we can not use warm method of cast welding due to all electrical and mechanical components surrounding the engine block. Therefore, we must keep the welding temperatures in check for a cold method of cast welding. The risk of the welding on thin cast parts of engine block is significant due to the thermal expansion revealing hidden cracks. Very often these hidden cracks are not visible even using the chemical methods for developing them. The cold temperature of the engine block closes them shut. It happens very often that applied heat during the welding reveals additional cracks in the surrounding area. Then, we must weld repair these cracks too. In reality, the success of weld repair is confirmed by your mechanic who is able to attach back the ripped during accident component.

Metal glue repairs of cracked engine block on luxury cars and semi-trucks

The metal glue repairs of cracked engine block on luxury cars and semi-trucks are very popular. They can be done:
  1. much quicker,
  2. do not involve any significant heat although we want to have about 21 degrees,
  3. provide absolute sealing, and
  4. can be applied even in most difficult places.
We recommend metal glue repairs of cracked engine block when the crack is going completely through the cast. As a result of such crack, the engine leaks oil when warmed up. To our disposition, we have 24 different metal glues with additional 16 different additives to make a custom metal glue for your application. When custom preparing this glue, we consider:
  1. the alloy specification,
  2. position of the crack on the engine block, and
  3. the growth tendency of the crack.
The metal glue repair of cracks in engine block is not suitable for fast moving cracks, that is moving at speed of ¾ inch or more per year. If the crack moves outside of metal glue patch than your engine will start leak oil again through the open portion of the crack. The metal glue patch does not stop the development of the crack, but it simply seals it. We extend the edges of metal glue patch passing about 2 inches the edges of the crack therefore we will extend the utilization of the engine by 8 years if the crack moves ¼ inch every year. We also use metal glue as a supporting method during the welding process in places where we can not reach.
